Professor Jan Marek is a primary care cardiologist with international experience in pediatric and prenatal cardiology and cardiovascular imaging. He has worked at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH), London since 2005.
Professor Marek was the coordinating primary physician for echocardiography and antenatal cardiology and professor at the Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences at University College London (UCL) and Charles University, Prague.
Qualifications
Jan did his pediatric cardiology training in Prague, Houston and Toronto. Since 1991 he has specialized in pediatric and prenatal echocardiography (ECHO) and contributed to the establishment of Echocardiography departments in Prague, (Motol University Hospital), Munich (Deutsches Herzzentrum) and London (GOSH).
Among others, he also participated in the development of a national fetal cardiac screening program in the Czech Republic between 1980 and 1990. Between 1993 and 2005 he worked as Director of the Department of Echocardiography and Prenatal Cardiology Center at the Children’s Cardiology Center of the University Hospital. Motol, Prague.
In 2005 he was appointed Consultant Senior Coordinator in Echocardiography and later as Head of Prenatal Cardiology at GOSH, and Honorary Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences, UCL, where he implemented all modern ECHO techniques including real-time 3DE, stress. echocardiography and tissue deformation imaging including assessment of ventricular asynchrony.
